ART AND DESIGN   - Unleashing Talent and Creativity

One artist was asked "What is Art?" Her response was also a question "What isn t it?"  It is in this view that Art has become a vibrant department at Tynwald.  The school attained its membership with the National Art Gallery of Zimbabwe starting last year.  This has catapulted the department to a higher level which has seen some of the school pupils working with highly ranked International artists like Dario Basso a Spanish painter who is one of the top ten artists in Spain.  We have also worked with our own Tapfuma Gutsa a Zimbabwean sculptor who has been based overseas for a lot of years.

Besides that the school has had a chance to work with different embassies like the embassy of Spain, Japan and India (Photos Paper craft) Apart from that the department works with a private company called Mapepa.  This company specializes in hand made paper and recycling waste materials to make paper. With this company pupils engage in paper making. During the World Cup with model a replica of the world cup trophy using these papers. We went to Polokwane (RSA) Mapungubwe Arts festival to perform some of our dances and had visits to their galleries, museums and the Peter Mokaba Stadium.Currently plans to join the Zimbabwe Allied Arts Schools Exhibitions are in progress - certainly we will take part.

Chipawo Club - Children performing Arts workshop

Our centre is called Tynwald Chipawo Centre.  This club started in 2008 with Ms. F. Gavi as its Teacher-In-Charge. Children do both traditional and modern dance under the guardians of very energetic and experienced uncle Majeza and Thabiso who is both an instructor and a TV presenter.Early last year, Gailey Nyangani and Ruvheneko Mujuru were among the Harare Juniors who went to Germany for a children s festival. At last year s end of year concert, the group performed so well that six of its members were chosen to be in the Harare Juniors team.

Due to a wonderful performance last year, Tynwald Chipawo Centre has been chosen to go to India to represent all the other centres.  Ten children will be leaving for India towards the end of the year. Everyone is eager and looking forward to it.
